Materials

Main Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons pure aloe vera gel Can be fresh from the leaf or simple store-bought gel
  • 1 tablespoon honey Optional but adds softness
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil or olive oil Coconut for thicker hair, olive for more slip
  • 2 to 4 tablespoons plain yogurt Optional, adds creaminess and helps with softness

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a small bowl, whisk together aloe vera gel, honey, and your choice of oil.
  • If the aloe gel has bits from the leaf, blend it for a smoother texture.

Application

  • Apply the mask to damp hair, focusing on the mid lengths and ends.
  • Use any remaining mixture to smooth over the top layer of your hair.
  • Twist hair into a loose bun and cover with a shower cap or an old T-shirt.
  • Let it sit for 20 to 30 minutes.
  • Rinse with lukewarm water, and shampoo lightly if you used oil.
  • If you skipped the oil, you may be able to rinse and condition only.

Notes

This mask works best with consistent use. For a lighter feel on the hair, avoid using excessive amounts of oil. Additional tips include using a microfiber towel for drying hair and avoiding aggressive rubbing when drying.
