Materials

Body Butter Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup Cocoa butter Use food grade or cosmetic grade, ensure it smells fresh.
  • 1/4 cup Shea butter or mango butter Optional, helps with softness.
  • 1/4 cup Carrier oil (sweet almond, jojoba, grapeseed, or olive oil) Pick based on the feel you like.
  • 1/2 teaspoon Vitamin E oil Optional, helps slow down rancidity.
  • 10-20 drops Essential oil Optional, flavors like vanilla oleoresin, lavender, or orange.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Melt the butters gently. Put the cocoa butter (and shea or mango butter if using) in a heat-safe bowl over a pot of simmering water. Stir occasionally until melted.
  • Remove from heat and stir in your carrier oil and vitamin E. If using essential oils, add them after the mix cools a bit.
  • Chill the mixture in the fridge for about 30 to 60 minutes until it turns cloudy and thick.
  • Using a hand mixer, whip the mixture for 3 to 6 minutes until light and fluffy.
  • Spoon the whipped butter into a clean, dry jar. Avoid adding water to the jar.

Notes

If the body butter gets grainy, ensure even cooling and avoid rushing the chilling process.
