Materials

Cream Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons sweet almond oil Use cold pressed and unrefined for maximum benefits.
  • 1 tablespoon shea butter or mango butter Choose based on desired cream texture.
  • 1 tablespoon beeswax pellets or candelilla wax Substitute the wax for a vegan option.
  • 3 tablespoons aloe vera gel or hydrosol Rose or chamomile hydrosol works well.
  • 1 teaspoon vegetable glycerin For extra humectant power.
  • 4 to 6 drops vitamin E oil Antioxidant to prolong shelf life.
  • 2 to 4 drops essential oil (optional) Lavender or blue tansy suggested for fragrance.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Set up a double boiler.
  • Add shea butter and beeswax to the bowl and warm gently until melted.
  • Stir in the sweet almond oil. Remove from heat and let it cool for 3 to 5 minutes.
  • In a separate cup, mix aloe gel and glycerin. Slowly drizzle this into the warm oils while whisking to create an emulsion.
  • Keep whisking for a few minutes as it thickens. Once it’s lukewarm, add vitamin E and optional essential oil.
  • Spoon into a clean jar and let it set uncovered for about 30 minutes. Then cap and store in a cool place.

Notes

For a lighter texture, use less wax; for a richer cream, add more shea butter. Small batches are ideal and should be used within 6 to 8 weeks. Keep in a cool, dry spot. For super quick version, blend 1 teaspoon of sweet almond oil with 1 tablespoon of aloe gel directly in your palm.
