Materials

For the basic gel

  • 2 tablespoons whole flaxseeds (golden or brown)
  • 1 cup water

For customization options

  • a few drops glycerin or honey for dry, tired looking skin
  • pinch aloe gel optional for oily or shiny skin days
  • tiny pinch turmeric for glow, use with caution as it can stain
  • a couple drops rose water for a fresh feel
  • tiny spoon plain yogurt for extra softness, patch test if sensitive

Instructions

Preparation

  • Bring the water to a gentle simmer in a small pot.
  • Add flaxseeds to the simmering water and stir often for 5 to 8 minutes until it resembles egg white texture.
  • Turn off the heat when the gel looks thick but still pourable.
  • Strain the gel immediately while it is hot using a fine strainer or clean cloth.

Application

  • For dry skin, mix 1 tablespoon of the gel with a few drops of glycerin or honey and apply a thin layer.
  • For oily skin, use plain gel only, applying a thin layer.
  • For added glow, mix a tiny pinch of turmeric or a couple drops of rose water into the gel before application.
  • Apply on clean skin and leave on for 10 to 15 minutes. Rinse with lukewarm water and pat dry.

Notes

Store leftover gel in a clean jar in the fridge for 5 to 7 days. Use clean fingers or a spoon to avoid contamination.
