Materials

Butters and Wax

  • 1/2 cup shea butter The base, rich and creamy.
  • 1/4 cup cocoa butter Adds firmness and a chocolatey warmth.
  • 2 tablespoons beeswax For firmer texture.

Oils

  • 1/4 cup carrier oil (sweet almond oil, jojoba oil, or olive oil) For glide.
  • 1 teaspoon vitamin E oil Optional, helps slow rancidity.
  • 10-20 drops essential oil (like lavender or vanilla) Optional, for scent.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Set up a double boiler. If none, use a heat-safe bowl over simmering water.
  • Add shea butter, cocoa butter, and beeswax to the bowl and let it melt slowly, stirring occasionally.
  • Once fully melted, turn off the heat and stir in carrier oil.
  • Let the mixture cool for about 10 to 15 minutes, then add vitamin E and essential oils if using.
  • Pour into a clean, dry jar. Let it sit uncovered until it sets, then cap it.
  • For a whipped look, cool until cloudy, then whip with a hand mixer.

Notes

Store in a cool spot, away from direct sunlight. Use a tight lid to prevent humidity. If it smells off or crayon-like, discard it and make a new batch. It can stay nice for a few months, especially with vitamin E added.
