Materials

For the mask

  • 3 tablespoons flaxseed gel
  • 2 tablespoons aloe vera gel can use fresh aloe or store bought, alcohol free

For making flaxseed gel

  • 2 tablespoons whole flaxseeds
  • 1 cup water

Optional ingredient

  • a few drops olive oil for extra moisture

Instructions

Prepare flaxseed gel

  • Add flaxseeds and water to a small pot.
  • Bring it to a gentle boil, then reduce to a simmer.
  • Stir occasionally. After about 5 to 8 minutes, it will start looking slightly thick and slippery.
  • Turn off the heat before it becomes too gummy.
  • Strain while it is warm.
  • Let it cool completely before mixing it into your mask.

Combine and apply the mask

  • Mix 3 tablespoons of flaxseed gel with 2 tablespoons of aloe vera gel until smooth.
  • Apply the mask to slightly damp hair by parting hair into sections.
  • Smooth the mask onto the scalp first, then pull it through the lengths.
  • Add extra on the ends and twist hair into a loose bun or braids.
  • Cover with a shower cap and wrap with a soft scarf.

Wash it out

  • In the morning, rinse with lukewarm water first.
  • Shampoo gently, focusing on the scalp, and follow with a light conditioner just on the ends.

Notes

Perform a patch test before full application. Keep the mask off your face and use a dedicated towel on your pillow. Avoid soaking your hair overnight.
